SKIMS installation at the Channel Gardens, Rockefeller Center.
The Channel Gardens at Rockefeller Center, a storied public garden in the heart of Manhattan, became the setting for a seasonal commercial installation in 2023. Working within this iconic New York landscape, Rewild created planting design that brought ecological intention to a high-visibility urban space. Rather than relying on conventional display horticulture, the studio applied its signature approach of layered, naturalistic plant communities to support the installation's narrative while respecting the site's existing character and seasonal rhythms. The design demonstrates how commercial projects can embed ecological intelligence into their visual presence, creating moments of genuine connection with plant life even in densely urban contexts. For installations of this scale and visibility, Rewild integrates biodiversity and living systems into the choreography of design, transforming temporary moments into platforms for rewilded thinking.
