Pride celebration planting at the Channel Gardens, Rockefeller Center.
The Channel Gardens at Rockefeller Center, a storied public plaza in the heart of Manhattan, became the site of a Pride celebration planting in 2022. Working with Tishman Speyer, Rewild created a vibrant horticultural installation that honored the occasion while responding to the urban context and seasonal conditions of the location. The project demonstrates how thoughtful plant selection and arrangement can activate public space with ecological intelligence and cultural meaning. Rather than treating ornamental planting as merely decorative, Rewild approached the installation as an opportunity to layer color, texture, and living systems into a ceremonial urban garden. The work reflects the studio's belief that even temporary and celebratory plantings can embody principles of ecological stewardship and naturalistic design.
