A private residential landscape in Long Branch, New Jersey.
Located along the New Jersey shore, this private residential landscape confronts the ecological complexity of a coastal zone, where salt spray, sandy soils, and maritime exposure demand both resilience and aesthetic restraint. Rewild approached the design as an opportunity to establish naturalistic plant communities that thrive within these environmental constraints while fostering biodiversity suited to the region's specific ecological character. Rather than imposing ornamental conventions, the studio worked to compose layered plantings that read as coherent, self-sustaining communities—integrating native species adapted to coastal conditions and allowing the landscape to develop its own ecological intelligence over time. In residential contexts shaped by ecological limitation, Rewild designs landscapes that honor the inherent character of place while nurturing stewardship through thoughtful, naturalistic planting composition.
