A residential landscape project in Brooklyn.
In Brooklyn, where urban density often leaves little room for ecological consideration, Rewild approached this 2022 commercial project as an opportunity to introduce naturalistic planting and layered plant communities into the built environment. The site's northeastern exposure and urban context presented specific constraints that informed every design decision, requiring a deep understanding of how native plant communities could thrive within city conditions. Rather than imposing a predetermined aesthetic, Rewild developed a design rooted in ecological intelligence—selecting species and compositions that would establish themselves authentically over time, creating habitat and visual richness simultaneously. The work reflects the studio's conviction that commercial landscapes need not be sterile or ornamental; instead, they can function as genuine ecosystems that support biodiversity while serving human needs. By weaving naturalistic planting into urban commercial space, Rewild demonstrates how rewilding principles can reshape even the most unlikely contexts into places of ecological and sensory vitality.
