North Plaza planting design at Rockefeller Center.
Rockefeller Center's North Plaza sits at the heart of Manhattan, a high-visibility public space that demanded thoughtful planting design aligned with both urban context and ecological intelligence. Rewild collaborated with Tishman Speyer to develop a planting scheme that would transform the plaza's horticultural character while respecting the constraints and opportunities of its Midtown location. The design draws on Rewild's core approach to naturalistic planting and layered plant communities, creating visual and ecological depth within the structured environment of a major hospitality destination. By integrating ecological stewardship principles into a prominent public realm, the project demonstrates how rewilding strategies can enhance urban spaces that host thousands of visitors daily, fostering biodiversity and connection to living systems even in the densest parts of the city.
